A deer stranded on an island in Todmorden has been rescued by firefighters.

The crews used one rescue sled and water rescue equipment to rescue the deer which has been on the land for the past couple of days.

Todmorden Police and the RSPCA received numerous calls about the deer which was marooned after jumping over a wall on to land bordered by the end of the town’s famous Great Wall and the waters of the Rochdale Canal.

The water rescue appliance from Bingley attended. The technical rescue unit from Cleckheaton was mobilised but was returned prior to arrival.

The deer which was kept fed and watered while it was stranded has now been handed over to the RSPCA.
