Victoria Blacklock, 16, and her fellow students visited the United Nations in New York and learnt about the UN’s involvement in the pursuit of world peace.

The transatlantic trip is organised every year to give students the opportunity to learn first-hand the ins and outs of the American politics and history they learn about at college.

Victoria, who is currently studying for AS levels, said: “In New York I learnt about the character of the city which has such an incredibly rich history and found the mixture of architecture from the turn of 20th century to the modern day amazing.”

While in New York City the group also paid their respects at Ground Zero and saw one of the most famous skylines in the world from up high, at the top of the Rockefeller Centre.

In Washington DC, the students had a guided tour of Congress at the Capitol Building and learned more about the complex system that makes up the USA’s political structure.

“The New York and Washington DC trip is always a favourite, particularly for its insight into the USA’s political background and vibrant cultural heritage.

“Widening students’ frames of reference is incredibly important to their progression and no doubt this incredible experience will stay with them for the rest of their lives.”
