MANY literary heroes and heroines were spotted at Shade Primary School as it celebrated Children’s Book Week.
Pupils and staff came to lessons dressed as their favourite characters for the day as part of a week of book-related activities.
Classrooms were filled with Harry Potter, Pippi Longstocking, Little Red Riding Hood and many other popular faces from the world of books.
Deputy headteacher Lucy Hirst said all the children and staff got into the spirit of things.
“It was really successful,” she said. “Everybody enjoyed it.”
During the week, each class had a mystery reader as teachers swapped between year groups for the daily storytime.
Youngsters had a go at writing their own stories and the year one children had a storytime and singing session at Todmorden Library.
Lucy thanked literacy co-ordinator Helen Clarkson for organising the activities.
Winners of the fancy dress competition will get to choose a free book when the book fair comes to school after half term.
