FIREFIGHTERS are urging people to take care when using electrical equipment in the home.
During Electrical Fire Safety Week, which runs until January 29, firefighters are advising people to follow a set of golden rules such as switching off and unplugging appliances when not in use, keeping heaters away from furniture and curtains, and not overloading sockets.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Craig McIntosh said: “Fire in the home can be devastating but it is nearly always preventable. It is really important people check their electrics are in good working order.”
