Environment Agency chairman Lord Chris Smith inspects flood works

CHAIRMAN of the Environment Agency, Lord Chris Smith, visited Todmorden yesterday afternoon (Thursday) to inspect floodworks.

Accompanied by area flood risk manager Sue O’Neill, Lord Smith, the former Culture Secretary, inspected the latest flood prevention measures.

He saw how at least £20 million has been spent on containing the River Calder and how millions more is being spent on walls and culverts to prevent Walsden Water from overflowing.

He was in the Rochdale Road area of the town to meet people and inspect work at Walsden Water near Morrison’s supermarket.
