A TAXI driver from Heptonstall is set to step out of her cab and walk eight miles in memory of her late father.

Fiona Windsor, whose father -Michael - died while suffering from lung cancer in 2012, decided to take on the challenge to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The 41-year0-old will complete the walk from The Cross Inn, Heptonstall, to Stoodley Pike, on Saturday, June 16, with her dog Jack.

Fiona will be joined by friends Bruce, who mapped out the walk for Fiona, Ean and their two dogs.

Fiona said: “My dad, Michael, died from cancer and I’ve also lost a couple of friends to the disease. It’s one thing that affects everybody at some point in their life.

“The walk will be a challenge as I’m not very fit with the job I do, but I’m quietly confident that I will do it. I’m looking forward to the end.”

Fiona will continue her fundraising after the walk with a raffle at The Cross Inn, which will start at 6pm.

Prizes include a silver bangle, an overnight stay for two in a local hotel and various prizes and vouchers from local businesses.

To sponsor Fiona or donate a raffle prize, contact her on 07554 766989 or 01422 647303.

Sponsor forms are also available at The Cross Inn, Heptonstall Post Office, Valley Private Hire, Hebden Bridge, and Hebden Bridge Picture House, New Road.
