FIRE crews from across West Yorkshire had to attend a moor fire stretching 1.5 square miles.

The incident on moorland above Cragg Vale started at around 5.30pm on Tuesday and fire officers from Todmorden were still watching over it yesterday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but Robin Ward, Station Manager at Todmorden and Mytholmroyd Fire Stations, warned hikers to ensure that all cigarettes and barbecues have been put out properly.
