Firefighters in the saddle for a great cause

It was pedal to the metal for a team of 12 Todmorden firefighters who embarked on a mammoth charity cycle ride.

The team set off from the town on September 15 and rode the 537 miles to John O’Groats, Scotland, in just under 36 hours.

It was all in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity and was inspired by a successful 2014 bike ride to Todmorden’s twin town, Bramsche, in Germany.

Firefighter Ryan Binks said: “It went really well and everybody enjoyed it. We had no major incidents, not even one puncture, not counting a little bit of saddle soreness.

“It has been a great success and we have raised more than £2,000 pounds for charity,

“I am really proud of the lads in the team, so a really big well done to everyone. I’d also like to say thank you to all the people who supported us - especially Todmorden Morrisons, which supplied us with energy food to get us through it.”

The team are already planning next year’s challenge and will cycle to Land’s End, Cornwall.
