TODMORDEN will have a flavour of the East for its ‘Oriental’ themed carnival on Saturday.
The popular annual event will feature stalls, a fairground and entertainment for all the family.
The action gets underway at 12.30pm when the parade departs from Sanworth Street and makes its way through the town to Centre Vale Park, where the carnival will be officially opened by Mayor of Todmorden Coun Richard White.
A couple of carnival traditions will be absent this year. There will not be a carnival queen due to a lack of applications and there will not be any floats in the parade due to health and safety requirements.
Carnival chairman Philip Clarke said: “It’s a shame really because the floats are what makes a carnival.”
The carnival queen of Great Britain, Chealsie Kay, will be in attendance.
Mr Clarke is hoping for some good weather on Saturday. “If we get a good day we get a lot of people on the park, but we can’t guarantee the weather,” he said.
Pre-day tickets priced £1 are available from Todmorden News Centre, Lifestyle Express and Cornholme Post Office.
