CHAMBER choir Ars Nova Sacra and soloists Le Vezzoze from Budapest will be bursting into song for the opening weekend of Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, writes Roger Scaife.
Saturday’s (June 25) lunchtime concert in Heptonstall, Le Vezzoze present solos, duets and trios from the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Highlights include three arias by woman composer Barbara Strozzi, exquisite cantatas by Schutz and some cheeky part songs by Henry Purcell.
Later at 6pm, the Hungarians, who are the guests of local choir The Hepton Singers, will be singing in a special Festival Mass at the Good Shepherd Church, Mytholmroyd.
On Sunday at 3pm, Ars Nova Sacra will enchant the audience at Wainsgate Chapel with their expertise and passion for dynamic sacred music, singing Gregorian Chant, masses and motets from the 15th to 20th Century, for the festival’s Choirs in the Chapel concert. There’s to be a picnic in the Chapel grounds when you may be lucky enough to hear some haunting Hungarian Folk Songs.
Further details of the two festival performances can be found at www.hbaf.co.uk. Tickets can be booked online from the website, or bought at the Arts Festival Shop in Albert Street, Hebden Bridge, call 01422 842684.
