A bumper £9,000 for cancer research has been raised by a local group.
The Todmorden branch of Cancer Research UK held their annual meeting in March and treasurer advised the members that over £9,000 had been raised during the year.
As well as very gratefully received donations from members of the public, many fund raising events were held, such as a fun quiz, open gardens, swishing party, afternoon tea and a Christmas floral evening.
Money was also raised at the Race For Life event in Halifax, at the Flu Jab Day at Todmorden Health Centre and bag packing at Morrison’s.
Many local shops and businesses are kind enough to look after collecting goblets and Pound-A-Square Hampers for the committee and many often donate raffle prizes too, said a spokeswoman.
The committee were also grateful to receive £1,200 from many fund raising activities held at Todmorden High School during the year.
A fun quiz has already been held this year and a number of other events are planned for 2013 including an Italian ladies’ evening, a swishing party, a tombola at Gordon Rigg Garden Centre, Walsden, the Race For Life, an afternoon tea and bag packing at Morrison’s - look out for details in the Todmorden News as they approach.
The spokeswoman said: “We are always looking for new members, so if you have time to spare, no matter how little, please feel free to join us.
“We would also like to thank the people of Todmorden and surrounding district for their support and look forward to seeing you at our events.”
