Give it some welly at town's country fair

It's time to get your wellies on!

That’s the message from the organisers of the Todmorden Country Fair - a brand new event organised for the town.

The idea came about after the Todmorden Agricultural Society announced its show would be moving to a new site over the Lancashire boundary to Cliviger after weight restrictions were imposed on Centre Vale Park.

But undeterred, a group has been formed to organise the country fair in a bid to fill the hole left in the town’s social calendar.

The fair, with a theme of wellies, will be held on June 3, 2017, and organisers, who are working with Calderdale Council and the Environment Agency, are brimming with excitement about what the day will hold.

Shirley Fielder said: “Even with its massive problems Centre Vale Park will be used. It’s a space well-loved by the people of Todmorden and cannot be simply written off.

“Care will be necessary to ensure its prime use as a flood plain. The park will see a traditional approach to country pursuits, with an emphasis on local business at its core.

“The fair aims to make Todmorden people feel proud of the town and ‘Destination Todmorden’ worth the trip. Calderdale Council and the Environment Agency have attended meetings and pledge support and guidance to avoid damaging the park.”

There will be plenty to enjoy on the day, including a range of animals, stalls, a food festival, plus an evening event with live bands.

To make the day a success, organisers need your help. For the first fair, a ‘foundation members’ campaign will run.

For £100 plus donation per person, members will receive benefits including a pass for the show and more.

Sponsorshop opportunities for businesses are also available and organisers are issuing a rallying cry for volunteers.
