The horticultural skills and dedication of green-fingered gardeners were celebrated at Todmorden in Bloom’s presentation of awards for their annual garden competition.

Jean Butterworth and Sheila Greenwood opened the evening, held last week, by praising the high standard of the gardens and thanking everyone for their support, including Alison Walker, a former competition winner, who helped with judging this year.

In their summary of Todmorden in Bloom’s recent activities special mention was given to the group’s partnership with the Friends of Todmorden Railway Station, which is currently recruiting support.

Another important development is the new Todmorden in Bloom ‘Education Fund’ for young people under the age of 21.

Central Methodist Chapel rang with applause as certificates were presented by the Mayor of Todmorden councillor Steph Booth, herself a keen gardener.

The competition covered a range of garden categories including private, alternative, vegetable, community, schools & pubs.
