Everyone is invited to join Todmorden’s Mayor and Mayoress at a coffee morning for Christian Aid this Saturday (April 9).
Couns Margareta Holmstedt and Dorothy Jordan will be guests at the event, being held at Central Methodist Church, Bramsche Square, Todmorden from 10am to 12.30pm.
Local fundraiser Marion Bednall said: “Thanks to great Todmorden support, our last Christian Aid coffee morning in September raised £300. We hope that the coffee morning will be well-attended and we could even raise £500.
“That’s enough to dig and construct a 100ft well that would make a huge difference to an entire village in rural Kenya. With no clean water nearby, it falls to the women and girls to walk miles to the nearest river - often repeating the journey several times a day.
“But with a well in the village, the supply of clean fresh water close by means that women can work and contribute to their family’s income. It also means that girls can go to school regularly and receive a good education that will help them get a job in the future.”
