A cat from Todmorden could be in line for a national award after being announced as a finalist in the Cats Protection’s National Cat Awards 2014.

Two-year-old Slinky Malinki won his place as one of three shortlisted cats in the Hero Cat category after helping his owner Janet Rawlinson, when she spent five days slipping in and out of consciousness following a bad reaction to painkillers.

Neighbours became concerned when they noticed the usually aloof Slinky Malinki prowling up and down the fence and tapping at their window.

Realising they hadn’t seen Janet for a few days, they went to investigate and called for medical help.

Janet said:”I’m delighted Slinky Malinki is a finalist in this year’s National Cat Awards,

“If it hadn’t been for him raising the alarm with my neighbours, who knows what could have happened.”

The winning cat will be announced on August 7 at the Savoy Hotel, London.
