A Todmorden pub has picked up a pair of prestigious awards.
Fresh from celebrating their first anniversary since the pub’s relaunch, the Hare and Hounds team enjoyed a second triumph scooping the ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Best Turnaround’ titles in the Awards for Excellence 2016 organised by Daniel Thwaites.
The pub was presented with its award at a ceremony held at Cottons Hotel & Spa, Knutsford, last week.
The winners now look forward to a five star trip to Ireland to celebrate later in the year.
Hare and Hounds’ tenant Richard Carlton was overwhelmed by his pub winning the two Thwaites awards.
He said: “This past year has been a whirlwind. It’s been a big month, coming off the back of celebrating our first anniversary at the Hare and Hounds by winning two very special awards.
“It’s been a real team effort becoming a community favourite for food and drink and we’re working hard to give local people even more reasons to come visit and enjoy our warm welcome.”
Now in their sixth year, the Awards for Excellence celebrate industry successes and innovation across Thwaites’ pub estate. The ten categories – including Best Newcomer, Best Pint, Best Trainer, Best Community Involvement and Pub of the Year – are designed to recognise publicans who have shown particular dedication and success in each area of their businesses.
Rick Bailey, chief executive officer at Daniel Thwaites, said: “These awards are a celebration of the great independence of spirit alive in our pubs.
“We have many brilliant examples of ideas that are brought to life through the hard work and determination of our publicans.
“The judges had a really difficult job picking a winner due to the exceptionally high standard of entries and all our finalists should be really proud of what they have achieved.
“I was delighted to be able to celebrate the commitment, dedication, flair and creativity of those publicans.”
