IS this the unluckiest wall in Todmorden?

Householder Mrs Margaret Stansfield certainly thinks so!

Mrs Stansfield explained that the front garden wall at her Burnley Road home has been demolished in car accidents three times in the last 20 years, twice in the last two.

“It started about 20 years ago when my grandaughter wasn’t so old and came to stay the night. At the time it knocked all the window in. That was number one.

“Then in 2009 another driver came up the road and smashed into my wall and on March 22 this year a third car hit it - it’s taken out my wallflowers and tulips,” she said.

Mrs Stansfield said she first had a wall built following the big flood of August 1982, to offer more protection than the privet which had been there.

“People go past and say ‘why does it always happen to you?’ I say ‘why can’t is be someone else for a change?’,” she said.

Mrs Stansfield says she wishes drivers would be more careful as they near that stretch of road, which curves round to the Ashenhurst Road junction.

When a nearby lamp-post was being repaired after the latest incident, she asked if bollards could be fitted - they would solve the problem, she said.
