It’s a high five for six local businesses in ‘scores on doors’

Six Todmorden establishments have received the top five star rating for food hygiene in Calderdale Council’s “scores on the doors” rating system.

Three more businesses are almost there as well, with a four star rating.

The six establishments which have gained the top rating in the latest round of inspections are Kafe Central at Oddfellows Hall, Todmorden, the Border Rose at Rochdale Road, Walsden, Vanilla Kitchen at Patmos, Burnley Road, Todmorden, the Glen View at Burnley Road, Cornholme, Bottoms Mill Cafe, at Rochdale Road, Walsden, and the Robinwood Activity Centre, Dobroyd Castle, Todmorden.

Those gaining the four star rating are the A. J. Diner at Ashenhurst Road, Todmorden, the Final Fruiteer at Todmorden Market and the Weavers Arms at Blind Lane, Todmorden.

In the last round of inspections The Market Place, Halifax Road, Todmorden, gained three stars but at Weir Minerals, Halifax Road, Todmorden, which was awarded two stars, improvement is necessary say the inspectors.

Staff at the premises which have gained the highest award are proud of their achievements and aim to keep up the highest standard.

Nancy Williamson, of the Border Rose, said: “The is the first time we’ve got five stars. We’ve had four in the past. We do a lot of food and we’re open every day. Once you reached the five star level you have done the hard work, then you need to maintain it.”

And Katrina Murphy, of Kafe Central, who has run the eaterie since May 2011, said they had been working towards the top grade since then. “We are really, really pleased to have it. We’ve done a lot of training and our staff have got their basic food hygiene qualifications. We’re on the ball and aiming to keep that standard,” she said,
