CUSTOMERS helped market traders raise around £700 for a cancer charity in just six hours last Saturday.

Todmorden Indoor Market Hall sets aside a charity day each year and this year they were asking members of the public to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

To do do, they had collecting boxes and a display outlining the work Macmillan does, but a centrepiece of the day is a giant raffle.

With every trader chipping in with a raffle prize, goodies ranging from a giant pie to DVDs and teddy bears to a cheese board were there to be won.

A spokesman for the traders’ association said: “Everybody chipped in with a prize, either goods or vouchers. We’ve notified some winners already and will be getting in touch with the others. It went pretty well.”
