A MAN whose work helped shape Todmorden has died at the age of 89.
Tributes were being paid this week to Mr John Spencer Taylor - better known as Jack - whose energy and drive to promote Todmorden saw him awarded the MBE from the Queen in her Millennium Birthday Honours List in 2000.
The second world war veteran was also honoured by the town when he received a Service to Todmorden award from Todmorden Town Council. On receiving it he said: “I do try because Todmorden is wonderful - a little gem.”
Jack literally shaped Todmorden through his work as an architect and was the driving force behind the foundation of Todmorden Tourist Information Centre.
