Full to capacity - that was Todmorden Town Hall last Saturday, when the annual Kidsfest event proved more popular than ever.

It’s now part of Todmorden tradition, said organiser Mary Clear, and runs thanks to the sterling efforts of community groups and individuals who give their time and services to make it work.

Mary said: “What was really different this year is that it was funded completely by the goodwill of other people. Some made sandwiches, others put on a little act. A favourite was ‘cooking on a candle’, Todmorden in Bloom made beautiful Christmas crowns, the churches took part and a lot more young people were delivering the activities for younger children, including the scouts and volunteers from Todmorden High School. Gordon Rigg’s garden centre donated some plant pots which were customised.

“Calderdale children’s services did a brisk trade in food for Santa’s reindeers, making bags of oats for them! One thing we noticed this year with the Lamplighter parade was we had a lot of visitors to the town too, spending all day here and hopefully they will come back next year.”
