CRICKETERS are hoping to pile up the runs and the cash at a charity match on Friday evening.
A Todmorden Cricket Club XI will face a Jack’s House Select XI in a 20/20 game at Todmorden’s Centre Vale ground, Burnley Road, in memory of solder Jack Stanley.
Chris Barker, from the Jack’s House team, hopes lots of people will come along to support the event and raise funds for Help for Heroes and other charities.
“I’ve been looking forward to it for months,” Chris said.
“We are hoping to attract 200 to 300 people. I know the forecast isn’t great but it will be a fun evening.
“If people haven’t watched cricket before, 20/20 is very entertaining.”
“We hope family and friends who knew Jack will come down and support it.
In addition to Chris, the Jack’s House squad consists of Paul Marrow, Jamie Shackleton, Darren Walters, Heath Kennedy, Daniel Lively, Sam Dunkley, Daniel Brown, Marc Walters, Josh Krogulski, Ross Shaw, Jordan Gill and Chris Hall.
They all knew Jack and played football with him for Jack’s House.
The Todmorden CC XI will be drawn from its first team squad, minus its professional.
Chris said: “Although it’s a charity fundraising match, it’s going to be a competitive game.”
Gates open at 5pm and the match will start at 6.30pm.
Tickets are on sale from Jack’s House, Gordon Rigg Garden Centre, Jay’s Hairdressers, Todmorden CC, Jake’s Butty Van, Todmorden Golf Club and Walsden Cricket Club. They are priced £3 for adults (concessions £1.50). Prices rise to £4 on the gate.
Free entry for children under 12.
