These days our National Health Service seems to be subjected to relentless criticism in some quarters and in the national press in particular.
Supposed horror stories are pounced upon with unholy glee for the sensational copy they provide.
I can only say that if there was no NHS to provide us with full and free health care most of us would suffer greatly at some point in our lives. It is therefore all the more important that those of us who have benefited by its continued existence should express our gratitude and admiration whenever the opportunity arises.
The other day I went into Calderdale Royal Hospital for a minor operation. I was overwhelmed with admiration for the cheerful and unstinting care I received and observed all around me.
I can only repeat that if there was no NHS most of us would suffer greatly at some point in our lives. Honi soit qui mal y pense (same on those who denigrate it)!
