A newly formed group of artists is planning a Tour de France inspired event to promote creative activities in the upper Calder Valley.

The Todmorden Artists group is organising a Tour de Studios event in May to showcase the range and quality of artistic talent in the town and nearby communities.

The event, which will be of a similar nature to the Hebden Bridge Open Studios event, will be staged over the weekend of May 17 and 18 as part of the Tour de France cultural festival taking place across the region.

Tour de Studios will incorporate a number of independent artists’ studios in Todmorden, Lydgate and Walsden, as well as Platform One at Todmorden railway station and Todmorden Studios.

Bill Kitchener, of Todmorden Artists, said: “We have 25 signed up at the moment.

“There will be all sorts of visual art on display.

“It is free and all are welcome to enjoy this rich and diverse event.”

A free leaflet with a map of the participating venues will be available at tourist information centres in Calderdale.
