Todmorden Cricket Club’s T20 Cricket Festival provided a top day’s entertainment for all.
It mixed cricket from four senior teams and a junior competition, while off the field of play a barbecue, beer tent and some music added to the entertainment.
On the field there was action from the morning when Todmorden defeated Bacup in an all-Lancashire League affair and by early afternoon neighbours Walsden got the better of their Central Lancashire League rivals Littleborough.
A junior competition for under 9s in the later afternoon brought more families to the club’s Centre Vale ground, with this late afternoon peak seeing more than 350 people in the ground as hosts Todmorden and Walsden prepared to contest the final, with Walsden the winners.
Todmorden CC skipper Andrew Sutcliffe said the event was the first held to raise money for the club’s cricket development fund.
“Obviously like most organisations in times like these we need to make as much revenue as possible,” he said.
“The main Twenty/20 aspect was to start Todmorden Cricket Club’s cricket development fund - all the money raised from these events will go to the fund, with every penny spent on the development of cricket only.
“This was the first of a few events we will be running over the next few years.
“We had around 350 to 400 people on at the peak time with the under 9s competition and the final. It was a good day.”
