A COMEDY duo has reached the final of the Musical Comedy Awards.

Brothers Tom and Ed Croft - aka Jollyboat - from Todmorden have battled through four rounds and beaten 65 other acts to book their place in the final five.

They have earned a chance to share the stage with one of their heroes – parodist Mitch Benn.

Jollyboat are best known for their pirate pop songs, which imagine what pop music would be like if it was all written by pirates.

“It looks silly when you write it down but we just have a laugh and bring lots of energy to the stage,” Tom said.

“Everyone has a good time.”

Tom and Ed started out performing at the Stubbing Wharf in Hebden Bridge, before moving to Liverpool.

They sold out their show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year and followed it up with headline performances at stand-up comedy clubs across the North West and in London.

“It’s all happened amazingly fast and we’re so psyched,” said Ed.

“We’ve gone from back rooms of pubs to the West End in less than a year”.

Jollyboat will be previewing their new Fringe show at the Liverpool Comedy Festival in May and hope to bring it to the Calder Valley in the summer.

The final of the Musical Comedy Awards will take place at the New Players’ Theatre in London’s West End on Saturday, March 19.
