Nearly 200 people turned out to raise money for a bereavement team that has supported a couple since their baby boy died aged just nine days old.

Mum Jordan Goldie and dad Jamie Rowe, who lost baby Alfie James Rowe to liver complications last March, said they wanted to raise money for the team at Alder Hey children’s hospital so other families could get the same support.

During an emotional day at Todmorden Cricket Club, the Cornholme couple managed to raise £885 for the team. In a separate pot, they have also raised £ 1,129.76 which will be equally shared between the bereavement team and the Alder Hey Imagine appeal.

Jordan said: “It has gone better than I thought it would. At first it just started off as a little family and friends thing, but with all the publicity we’ve had there have been lots of people here I didn’t know. The support we have had has been fantastic.”

During the event, there was a bouncy castle, face painting, games and a raffle with over 50 prizes, which have been donated by businesses in Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.

Jordan said she would like to thank all the businesses, family, friends and members of the public who supported the event.

During the fundraiser, which was attended by Alfie’s three-year-old brother Harley and one-month old sister Emmelia, there was also a sponsored balloon release in memory of baby Alfie.

Jordan said: “Releasing the balloons was quite emotional. We released nine baby blue balloons at my little boy’s funeral and so it brought back memories.

“Releasing nine balloons is probably something we’re going to do every year now.”

Jordan said: “Alfie wasn’t in Alder Hey for a long time. We took him to Oldham Hospital on the Tuesday night and he then got taken to Alder Hey.

“He was only there for a few hours before he died, but it’s the support they have given us since then.

“The bereavement team has been fantastic and they’re still in contact with us now.

“All the support they have given us has been brilliant and I don’t think we could have got through this without them.

“The money we’re raising will help other families and they’ll be able to give them the same support they have given us.”
