IN spite of a tough economic climate there will be no lack of activity in moving Todmorden projects forward in 2012.

Ian Cooper, who represents Todmorden ward on Calderdale Council, said progress was being made over a number of issues which were concerning residents.

“Over the Christmas period a number of residents approached me registering their concern at what they felt was a lack of impetus and investment in Todmorden.

“In truth, in spite of the economic climate there has been a great deal of activity, although not readily apparent, and in some instances this is purely down to timing rather than commitment,” he said.

Coun Cooper summarised the activity and how some issues will be taken forward this year. Following a successful grant application by Todmorden Town Hall Development Group, work on repairing external stonework would begin around March and would be sufficient to allow the scaffolding to be removed on completion.

Removal of hoardings and temprary landscaping of Bramsche Square is also immininent, Incredible Edible Todmorden assisting in the first phase, opening up the town centre and also showcasing it to investors and developers as a key town centre site.

Coun Cooper said: “A feasability and viability appraisal for Bramsche Square is already well under way and significant expressions of interest have already been registered. We are obliged, as part of our agreement with our funding partners, to have the whole of the works complete by March 31, 2015, so it is important we vigorously pursue this objective.”
