Armed raid at the atm: Police chase as gang flees down the Valley
POLICE were last night continuing a massive manhunt for members of an armed gang that attacked a cash delivery van at a Todmorden supermarket.
The van was delivering money to the cash machines outside Morrisons, on Rochdale Road, Todmorden, at 7.34am yesterday when the raiders struck.
The three robbers are alleged to have threatened the security guard with a sledgehammer before making their getaway in a white Vauxhall Vivaro van towards Mytholmroyd.
A police vehicle which was escorting the delivery van gave chase and the force helicopter and dog team helped search for the gang.
Steve Ashworth, deputy general manager at Morrisons, said: "It could have been a different story if the police hadn't been there.
"Nothing like this has happened here before."
