Avant garde hairstyles inspired by Olympics

A HAIRDRESSING academy has been commissioned to put on a series of seminars to train a college’s NVQ students in the art of cutting, colouring and avant garde make-up and hair.

Stone Hair Art Academy, based on Burnley Road in Todmorden, held the first of its seminars at Blackburn College on Monday, training 60 students and several tutors.

Loucas Giorgio, Trevor Harding and their artistic team - who all trained at Stone Hair Art and attended Calderdale College to complete their NVQ level three - all participated on the day.

The team modelled for Loucas as he demonstrated asymmetric hair cuts and converted them to avant garde hair and make-up looks.

Loucas said: “The theme of the avant garde looks was based on the Olympic flame.

“Shannon’s hair was coloured into an iridescent pink and her face was made up in pink and light blue eye shadows and gentle golden powders were dusted on the face to give the golden glow.

“Jenny’s hair was coloured in indigo black with flashes of royal blue. Her face was made up in blue and pink eye shadows and dusted in soft silvers and golden powders for that shimmering look.

“Tom’s hair went from dark to blond presenting the new blond for men.

“It was a superb day and the response of the students was enthusiastic with loads of questions which were answered by our team.

“The results of the day were excellent and educational.

“At the end of the seminar Sue Postlethwaite, head of the hair and make-up departments at Blackburn College, requested if our three young stylists could teach at the next seminar.

“We have produced three young stylists and they are the ones to look out for in the future.”

Shannon demonstrated the art and importance of the correct consultation; Jenny showed how clients should maintain their hair at home; and Tom demonstrated correct head massage and shampoo and conditioning treatment.
