Bonfire bonanza to attract 10,000
THE skies above Hebden Bridge will be alive with spectacular colour when the town hosts its community bonfire.
The annual event, organised by Hebden Bridge Round Table, takes place at Calder Holmes Park on Saturday, November 3.
Part of the proceeds from the event, which is expected to attract 10,000 people, will go to supporting Calder Valley flood victims.
One of the event organisers, Will Hodgins, said: “Hebden Bridge Bonfire is one of the north of England’s premier bonfire events, attracting visitors from all over Yorkshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester. This is a family event which has been thrilling crowds for over 50 years.
“We have been working on this event for the past six months and we’re all very committed to the cause and getting it to run smoothly. In return, we want as much support from everybody in the upper Calder Valley as we can get.
“We’re looking for everybody to let their hair down and support us after what has been a difficult few months of floods.”
The gates open at 4.30pm and the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm. A children’s firework display will be lit at 7pm, followed by the main display at 8pm.
There will also be children’s fairground rides and a wide variety of catering, offering food from around the globe.
Organisers are encouraging people to take advantage of a free park-and-ride scheme, which begins at 4.30pm at the Moderna Business Park on Burnley Road in Mytholmroyd, because of the lack of parking available in Hebden Bridge.
The event is pay at the gate and entry is £5 adults, £3 under-12s and for the first time ever there will be a family ticket (for two adults and two children or one adult and three children) priced at £12. For more information, visit www.hbrt.org.uk.
