Bus service will go ‘up the hill’

A BUS operator has agreed to extend one of its services to reach an isolated part of Todmorden.

From January 30, the T4 bus service to Kilnhurst will include a stop at Dale Avenue five times a day in each direction.

The move by Metro follows a request from Todmorden Town Council to extend the service due to many residents in the area being reliant on public transport to get to and from the town centre. Coun Frank McManus, who raised the issue, said: “I am very pleased that something can be achieved after all these years. It will be a real asset for local residents.”

Neale Wallace, Metro bus services manager, said the council’s other request to install a direct Todmorden to Keighley service was a consideration for commercial bus companies.

Why a reinstated Todmorden-Keighley service again. Was this previously axed (Todmorden-Hebden Bridge section) the last time due to costs and low fare paying passenger numbers. If anything there should be more evening and Sunday buses between Todmorden and Burnley, and between Todmorden and Rochdale, plus reducing evening and Sunday buses between Todmorden and Halifax to 1 bus every hour.(Todmorden-Hebden Bridge section using a smaller bus should remain every 30 minutes evenings and Sundays though, same too for Halifax-Hebden Bridge section). Also what about installing an early morning journey from Todmorden at 0455 hours to Burnley Monday to Saturday for the many people in Todmorden who work in Burnley,Nelson,Colne, etc, often starting work for 6am.Exactly the same at present as a bus departing Todmorden at 0455 hours to Rochdale Monday to Saturday for the many people in Todmorden who work in Rochdale,Heywood,Middleton,Oldham,Bury, etc.
