Calder Valley MP to raise Todmorden horse meat scandal in Commons
Craig Whittaker MP
Craig Whittaker will today ask the Secretary of State for more information on the investigation surrounding the Peter Boddy Licensed Slaughterhouse.
In a stunning development the Todmorden site at East Hey Head Farm, Hey Head Lane, was raided by Food Standards Agency staff.
It is alleged horse carcasses were supplied to Farmbox Meats Ltd, in Aberystwyth and the FSA suspended operations at both plants and an investigation is underway.
Mr Whittaker said he wanted to know if the tracking of course of beef from birth to the food chain is the same as horse meat.
“If that is the case it should be a relatively quick investigation,” he said.
“These are allegations at this stage.
“We do not know until the investigation is over if any wrongdoing has taken place.”
Mr Whittaker said the Todmorden slaughterhouse was one of only five in the UK licensed for horses.
