The NHS Litigation Authority, which released the latest figures, paid out £325m in total for maternity care failings nationally during the year.

Consultant Martin DeBono, Calderdale and Huddersfield’s clinical lead for family and specialist services, said: “On rare occasions we have missed opportunities to provide excellent care.

“We fully investigate all these occasions so we can pick up and share any learning from them to try to ensure they don’t happen again.

“We continually work hard to improve the care for babies, their mums and families.”
