UPPER Calder Charities Assist (UCCA) has successfully secured funding to open the Todmorden Community Resource Centre.

The centre, based at the Old Bakery, Lever Street car park, Todmorden, will provide a meeting room for groups to accommodate up to 30 people.

Funding for the centre - which also includes internet access with laptops and Apple equipment, printing facilities, a small storage area and a projector - has come from the Big Lottery Fund and Todmorden Town Council.

UCCA plans to offer use of the service free of charge when it is launched in November.

Shirley Fielder, of UCCA, said: “Todmorden has no meeting rooms available for use in the evenings any more and small groups simply cannot afford to rent rooms.

“For the town to flourish, these groups need support and resources or we will find ourselves without them altogether.”

Acting as a “social hub”, UCCA intends to introduce groups to other support organisations, who in turn have facilities to teach and help them with grant applications and other matters.

“Any type of group is welcome from any walk of life or industry,” Shirley said. “Let’s make Todmorden a better place to live.”

UCCA will host open nights at the centre on Tuesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 11, from 7-9pm. Anybody interested in knowing more is welcome. For more information, call 07880 883333.
