CIVIC guests from both sides of the Channel will gather on Saturday night to celebrate 30 years of Anglo-French relations.

Members of Todmorden Town Twinning Association (TTTA) will be joined by counterparts from Roncq and the Mayors of both towns for a celebratory dinner to mark the 30th anniversary of official links between the two towns.

Gail Allaby, vice chairwoman of TTTA, said: “With it being 30 years, we are having a big celebration.

“It’s a big achievement.

“We are looking forward to it. It will be a good night.”

The Mayor and Mayoress of Calderdale will also be attending the event at Todmorden High School.

The dinner forms part of a a five-day visit by a party of 50 visitors from Roncq.

Todmorden and Roncq became twin towns three decades ago.

A group from Todmorden travelled to Roncq and were struck by the similarities between the two towns, which were both industrial and surrounded by countryside.

It resulted in official links being established between the towns, which are still going strong today.

“We still have some original members,” Gail said.

“We have got a very active committee.”

Earlier this year, several members of TTTA and the then Mayor of Todmorden Coun Richard White visited Roncq for an anniversary celebration with the French twinning association.
