Two charities went halves with the proceeds from a coffee morning.

Todmorden Trefoil Guild held its annual coffee morning, with Overgate and the Stroke Association splitting the £260 proceeds.

In recent years Overgate has been the chosen charity for the guild, but this year because several of its members have suffered strokes or known a family member who had been a victim, the Stroke Association was added to the list.

There was an added boost for Stroke Association who received an extra donation of £40, meaning the total presented to representative Shamsul Arafen was £170.

Mr Arafen told the ladies he was delighted to receive the donation on behalf of the charity.

“Much money is needed to advance research in to stroke, an illness which is all too common, and this money will be used in valuable ways,” he said.

After the presentation he spoke about stroke and its effects and played some simple games which demonstrated the kind of handicaps which might result from a stroke.
