Council ‘won’t be a soft touch’

Calderdale Council says people should not see it as a “soft touch” by making claims against it for trips and slips.

Since the beginning of the year, the council has successfully contested three claims where people have tried to claim compensation for injuries allegedly caused by trips and falls they claimed were the fault of the council through poor maintenance.

Coun John Beacroft-Mitchell, Cabinet member for performance and resources, said Calderdale Council will take a robust stand in tackling the compensation culture.

“Wherever we think a claim is fraudulent, we will fight it through the courts,” he said.
