Councillors’ pay has been revealed

THE total amount of expenses claimed by current and former Calderdale councillors has been revealed.

The figures cover May 2011 to May 2012 and the highest claimant for the upper Calder Valley was former Calderdale Council leader and current deputy leader Coun Janet Battye, who received £37, 112.61. Her basic allowance was £9,930.96, but Coun Battye, who represents the Calder Ward, was given a special responsibilty allowance of £27,181.65.

The other two Calder Ward councillors, Dave Young and Nader Fekri, claimed £9,930.96 and £8,997.41 (£107.60 in travel expenses), respectively.

In Todmorden, Coun Jayne Booth received £8,978.55, Coun Ian Cooper claimed £11,012.13 (including a special responsibility allowance of £1,081.17), Coun Ruth Goldthorpe got £18,295.11 (including a special responsibilities allowance of £7,448.04 and travel expenses of £916.11), Olwen Jennings received £2,504.17 (including a special responsibilities allowance of £1,249.47 and travel expenses of £213.55) and Coun David O’Neill was given £1,068.29 (including £27.14 in travel expenses).

In Luddenden Foot, Coun Christine Bampton-Smith received £10,037.45 (including £154.50 in travel expenses). Coun John Beacroft-Mitchell was given £19,432.36 (including a special responsibilities allowance of £9,143.32 and travel expenses of £358.08) and Coun Richard Marshall claimed £9,930.96.

In total, Calderdale Council paid out £678,157.58 in expenses.

This included basic allowance expenses of £506,478.96, special responsibility allowances of £167,545.29 and travel expenses of £4,133.33.
