Couple who met on blind date mark 60 years together

A COUPLE who met on a blind date celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last week.

Jack and Elsie Pitman, of Halifax Road, Todmorden, were married at Central Methodist Chapel on August 26, 1950.

"We have enjoyed all the 60 years," Elsie said.

Jack, 80, and Elsie, 81, marked their anniversary with a gathering of family and friends at their home.

"We enjoyed it," Elsie said. "It was good."

Jack, who was born in Lydgate, worked for Percy Smith Timber Merchants before becoming a foreman for Calderdale Council.

Elsie was a machinist at Dickinsons and N and R Components.

One of the couple's favourite pastimes was travelling around the country on holiday.

"We had a caravan for a while and we used to drag that around with us," Jack said.

The couple have two sons, Glyn and David, as well as a grandson and a grand-daughter.
