WHEN television gardener Diarmuid Gavin visited Incredible Edible Todmorden last week to launch a Morrison’s supermarket Let’s Grow campaign, he took time out to meet local scouts who are community growers.

He met members of the 20th Todmorden Scouts, who have been working in partnership with Incredible Edible, and Todmorden police staff, at their growing bed at Todmorden Police Station.

Scouts are encouraged to discover where our food comes from and have a go at growing fruit and vegetables, harvest them and, using other locally-produced food, cook a meal for them and some guests to enjoy as part of their “Grow It, Cook It, Eat It” award.

Diarmuid, a former scout himself, spent time talking to the scouts about different vegetables and herbs that were being grown in the police growing beds, adding: “It was my experiences as a scout that inspired me in to my current job.”
