Do the adverts mean they have changed?

Hirst Street,

Todmorden.

JUDGING by the number of Tory billboards appearing all over Calderdale, it looks like Lord Ashcroft's money is flooding into our constituency.

These adverts, which even appear on the back of buses, present the Tories as a party that has changed and is now in touch with modern Britain. After recent events this looks highly questionable.

First we had the Tory MP Nicholas Winterton saying he couldn't possibly travel standard class on the train because he would be among "a different type of people".

Then we had David Cameron forcing candidates with quadruple-barrelled surnames to hide their elite background. Overnight one candidate called Richard Grosvenor Plunkett-Ernle-Drie-Drax, who lives in an Elizabethan mansion with 7,000 acres, suddenly became Rick Drax!

Then it emerges that the Tories have not been straight about the tax status of a major donor, Lord Ashcroft, who seems to be trying to buy the General Election from a shadowy tax haven in Belize.

But to top it all we now hear that Zimbabwe's crazed dictator Robert Mugabe has come out in support of David Cameron because he can "relate" to the Tories better!

Are these really the signs of a modern party in touch with everyday people?
