Drink to festival’s continued success

HAVE you ever tried a Dancing Duck or even aimed for a Double Top or looked at the North Star?

Well all this and more was on offer at Hucknall’s Beer Festival last weekend which proved a runaway success.

“It was a brilliant and busy event,” said manager of the John Godber Centre where the festival was held, Kim Pears. “It simply couldn’t have gone better with more than 700 visitors over the three days.”

Nottingham CAMRA helped organise the event and were on hand to serve assisted by volunteers from Hucknall Rotary Club.

“This is the centre’s biggest and best fundraising event of the year and thanks to all our helpers, once again it has proved a great success.”

With over 60 real ales on offer, together with live music on Saturday night and a farmers’ market and craft stalls also in attendance, the event proved popular with people from across the area.

Kim added: “We also sold food throughout and someone described our chilli as ‘epic’ which went down well.”

The festival suffered a set-back in 2011 when it ran out of beer and was unable to open on Sunday but organisers have learned from this and there remained 20 different beers still on tap for the last day of the festival.

“Throughout the weekend there was a fantastic atmosphere and people really enjoyed it. There is a lot of hard work and preparation for the event beforehand but it allproved worthwhile.”
