Facelift planned for Der Street

WORK has begun to prepare for a new housing improvement scheme in the Der Street area of Todmorden.

The proposed project will help to improve the appearance of a prominent site on Halifax Road and visually enhance the journey into Todmorden. Improvements will also help promote the development of nearby vacant sites.

The work forms part of the wider regeneration proposals for Todmorden being developed in association with Todmorden Pride and other local groups.

Coun Amanda Byrne, Calderdale Council cabinet member for economy and enterprise, said: “This housing improvement scheme will really help lift the appearance of this site and support the wider regeneration work that’s being planned in Todmorden.”

Owners and residents of the properties between Back Der Street and Richmond Street are currently being consulted on details of the proposed works which include low pressure stone cleaning, new guttering and fall pipes, and re-pointing.

Participation in the scheme is entirely voluntary with the incentive of all the work being fully funded via Leeds City Region budgets. Calderdale Council is looking to secure further funding to extend this work to other properties in the surrounding area.

Additional financial assistance is also being made available to owner occupiers to assist them if any essential repair work is needed inside their homes, along with help to make all properties more energy efficient.

Work on phase one of the scheme will start in the summer and continue through the year.

Up to 45 houses will be included in phase one, subject to tender prices.
