Factory outlet bucked gloomy sales prediction trends
THE Original Factory Shop’s Todmorden branch bucked any gloomy predictions for Christmas 2011 with a year on year rise, sales figures show.
For the five weeks to January 8, sales at the store, in Halifax Road, Todmorden, were 1.8 per cent up on the previous year in what the store calls “a challenging retail landscape.”
The figures contributed to a 4.2 per cent increase in like for like sales and an overall 11 per cent rise over that five week sales period.
Store manager Yvonne Corcoran said Christmas had gone well for the stor and its staff in Todmorden.
“We have a wide range of products, some great nrands and everything is heavily discounted which at times like these makes a big difference,” she said.
She added that the vast majority of customers were local and staff got to know regular visitors to the store quite well.
The company as a whole believes its flexible buying model enabled it to respond to differences in the weather compared to 2010, for example.
Lack of snow meant sales of wellington boots were down by half, but sales of outdoor toys boomed by 200 per cent in the run up to Christmas with big demand for the year’s best selling toy, a children’s scooter, says the company.
Sales strengthened as December progressed, said a spokesman.
