Family disco in aid of disabled children

A FAMILY is appealing for the local community to put on their dancing shoes in support of an urgent appeal to raise £6,000 for their disabled children.

Joanne Greenwood, of Todmorden, is hosting a family disco in aid of her two young sons Andrew, ten, and Nathan, nine, who have both been diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

The boys have been attending The Legacy Rainbow House for specialist treatment for the past eight years for life-changing therapy.

But due to the economic climate the charity is running low on funds, which means this could be cancelled unless money is raised.

Joanne said: “Without conductive education and The Legacy Rainbow House, Andrew and Nathan wouldn’t be where they are today.

“They have been able to achieve so much and the charity has been such a great support for us.

“We need to be able to raise this money to allow them both to continue their progress.”

The brothers have undergone conductive education at The Legacy Rainbow House, a form of specialist education and habilitation for children with motor disorders, such as cerebral palsy and acquired brain injuries.

It aims to help children overcome developmental problems including physical and self help so that they can live more active and independent lives.

The family disco to launch the Greenwood’s appeal will take place on Sunday, February 12, at the Fielden Centre, Todmorden, from 5-7pm.

Tickets are priced £1 per person.

The Legacy Rainbow House specialises in providing services for children with brain injuries, disabilities and life limiting conditions from its centre of excellence, The Legacy.

It is currently implementing new, innovative services to meet the needs of children, young people and their families.

The charity also provides habilitation services for children born with a brain injury. This aims to prevent future damage to the body which may occur due to a life of limited movement.
