Miners were evacuated after a fire broke out above ground this morning at a colliery in Todmorden.

Fire crews from four stations including Todmorden, attended the blaze at the hilltop colliery on Bacup Road at about 9.45am on Wednesday.

A fire had broken out between two outbuildings - thought to have been sparked by a fault with a piece of parked machinery.

Crews remained on site damping down for about four hours.

No-one was injured.
