Police are appealing for information after five people were found injured following a reported altercation in the Crosland Moor area of Huddersfield.
Officers were initially called shortly after 5.15am this morning (Saturday, August 30) to reports of people fighting in Sunningdale Road.
On arrival, two men were found injured in the street.
Further reports were then received of people with injuries in Gilbert Grove, Haigh Street and Thackeray Grove.
In total five people, a 26-year-old man, a 29-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman and a 30-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with stab and slash-type wounds.
Four of those injured remain in hospital where they are being treated for injuries which are described as serious but not life threatening.
Two people, a 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and are currently in custody.
Detective Inspector Ian Thornes, of Kirklees CID, said: “We have been conducting extensive enquiries in the local area but would urge anyone who we have not already spoken to who saw or heard anything that could help our investigation to get in contact. At this time the motives for and circumstances of how these people have come to be injured are unclear; however it would appear that those involved are known to each other.
“Anyone with information or who has heard anything third-hand about what has happened is urged to call Kirklees CID on 101. If you do not want to speak to the police directly, you can pass information to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
