Follow your red nose and make a diary date
Jeff Thomson of Curried Away, Christine Nichol of CN Fine Foods and Abdul Akhundzada of Greek Olives give Red Nose Day the thumbs up
Shoppers at Todmorden Market at Comic Relief weekend need only follow their noses...and taste buds!
Traders in the Market Hall and outside stalls are getting together for a bumper day of fundraising for the charity on Saturday, March 16.
They hope shoppers will make a bee-line for the market where they will be able to sample goodies at all four corners, be entertained by some music and even have the chance to gunge at least one of the market managers!
Inside the market hall, tickling the taste buds will be Todmorden’s Pextenement Cheese Company at the Crumbly Cheese stall, where there will be other cheeses and wine to try too. Mellings, Ham Corner and Brian’s Cooked Meats will also be offering a selection of their products to try, while chef Rick Carlton, of Rick’s Cafe, is running sponsorship on the eating of a giant beefburger.
On the outside market, some of the best known food traders on the outdoor stalls will be offering samples ranging from samosas and olives to sausages and strawberry tarts. Visitors can also follow the Red Nose food trail, trying tasty samples en route.
There will be boxes for donations to Comic Relief and, having had your appetites whetted, the market community hopes people will give generously to the appeal which runs nationally.
Shoppers will be serenaded for at least part of the day, with Todmorden Community Brass Band performing from 1.30pm to about 2.30pm.
The band will also be bringing various spare instruments to try and encourage potential new members to have a go.
The grand finale takes place in front of Market Hall at about 2.45pm - one of the market managers, Mr John Walker, has agreed to be gunged and it is hoped another can be persuaded to join him before next weekend!
