HBOS volunteers make a difference
PAINT brushes, wood preservative and claw hammers were all wielded by volunteers escaping the office on a beautiful sunny day in Centre Vale Park.
As part of the latest team building and volunteer day HBOS staff left their desks in Copley, Pudsey and Huddersfield to join Calderdale Council’s parks and streetscene staff in Todmorden’s recently re-opened park.
Volunteers painted a metal fence at the entrance of the park, treated a wooden fence surrounding the new wetland area with wood preserver, removed a redundant timber fence from behind the band stand, removed roses to make way for a new flower bed and took down redundant signs.
Project co-ordinator Jennifer Heald, an operations analyst at HBOS, said everyone had enjoyed the beautiful sunny weather.
Mark Dempsey, of Calderdale Council, said with a team of volunteers working alongside council staff had made a big impact in a short period of time.
“The HBOS staff enjoyed what turned out to be a wonderful autumn day away from their desks and with the park staff throwing themselves wholeheartedly into the day a lot was achieved to benefit the park.”
He said the department would like to thank HBOS for organising the day and the volunteers for all their hard work.
